Glacier Travel

This one-day course expands on the skills covered in the one-day Alpine Mountaineering course. This training module is performed on Mt. Hood. This will prepare you to choose optimum routes on a glacier climb; how to stay out of crevasses; and, failing that, how to get out of a crevasse. We also cover how to rig a sled and rope-up for expedition style travel on glaciers. Topics and skills covered include:
- Glaciers and how to read them
- Roped travel on glaciers
- Rigging sleds
- Crevasse rescue techniques
- Pulley Systems
Price includes transportation from the Portland area to Mt. Hood, textbook and course materials, prusiks, ice ax, crampons, and group climbing gear.
We can conduct a session anytime an instructor is available and snow conditions are suitable.
